About Us
From Community Activists to Technology Providers
AJWI Inc. was born from a shared commitment to equity, justice, and systems change. Founders Andrew J. Wong, also known as “Andy,” and Steve Phillips have spent over three decades working at the intersection of community empowerment, public policy, and data-driven innovation.

Their early work focused on grassroots advocacy in education, civil rights, immigration reform, and criminal justice. In 1998, they launched a new venture, JMPT (Justice Matters Policy and Technology), to bring their experience into the digital age.

With Andy’s background in Civil Engineering (UC Berkeley) and Applied Math (SF State), and Steve’s expertise in policy and law, JMPT merged technology with mission.

What started as a consultancy supporting efforts like the Hewlett Foundation’s Neighborhood Improvement Initiative and First 5 California’s CARES program soon evolved into something much bigger.
